Final Exam

Among entering Ms. Blackwell’s English class, I had never used the blogging system before.  When I first heard that this is how we would be doing all of our assignments I became ecstatic.  I set my profile, wrote the brief biography about myself, and could not wait to begin.  I believe that blogging in certain circumstances, can be beneficial. But, I soon became perplexed.  I did not understand at all how to use word press and writing to my own blog became confusing.

Although I did experience some difficulties using word press, one thing I think we can all appreciate from blogging was the fact that it was so organized.  There was never a question as to what was going in the class because it was always posted.  I also liked the fact that if we had any problems or confusion on any assignment we could blog each other as well as Ms. Blackwell to further understand the assignment.

Although blogging was valuable to a certain extent, I do not believe that I will ever use blogging again unless it is required for another class.  I am really not as interested in blogging as I thought I would be.  I do not believe it is something I would enjoy doing on a regular basis.

Argument, Audience and Fallacies

  1. Who is your specific audience?
  • My audience would be mothers with infants or expecting mothersWhy did you choose them?

    2.Why did you choose them?

  • I chose this audience because it effects this group directly.

3.How will your audience affect the argument you intend to present?

  • The audience will affect what I say in my argument as well as the way I deliver my opinions.  Some of my audience will disagree and some will agree so I have to make sure that I am persuasive to those who dont agree and reassuring to those who do agree.

   4. Which fallacies will you need to focus on keeping from your argument? Why are these (individually) important to consider in  your argument?

  • Post Hoc, Ergo Propter Hoc (After this, therefore because of this)(Also called Confusing Chronology with Causality)
    • Assuming that because you breastfeed your baby will be healthier
  • Hasty Generalization
    • If you bottle feed the baby will not get as much nutrients as they need
  • Appeals to False Authority and Bandwagon Appeals
  •                   Bottle feeding is the best method because most actresses use this method
  • Circular Reasoning

Stating the fact that breast feeding is the best feeding method, explaining why, and then restating that breast feeding is the best method.

  • Slippery Slope

bottle feeding will decrease the mental development of the baby

  • Failing to accept the burden of proof
    • Breastfeeding is generally best for the baby.
  • Overreliance on authority

    • assuming that something is true simply because an expert says so and ignoring evidence to the contrary.
  • Oversimplification
    • Stating the obvious, breastfeeding is best for the baby. Without adding any facts.

    Your Thoughts on Ashley X

I believe that the Ashley X blog was very sad but I believe that Ashley’s parents did what they thought was right for their daughter.  There are probably alot of opinions about what Ashley’s parents did but I do understand why they did what they did.  The parents felt as though they did what they did to protect their daughter.

    Racially Directed Reading and Blog

I believe that both articles were very interestingand had alot of truths to them.  I think situations of this sort stilloccurs today.  In the Secrets Secret revealed article, it made me feel a little uncomfortable even though I know that this is still common.

I dont think I know anyone who has these beliefs.  I have had a minor encounter with someone who has these views.  A white male manager followed me and my friend around the whole grocery store until we checked out.
